In my humble opinion the greatest quality a leader should have is encouragement. You need to build up and praise those you lead so that they will accomplish all that they are capable of. Too many managers and leaders are quick to criticize and slow to praise. It needs to be the opposite, we should be quick to praise those under us.
It is a fact that of life that all people have these basic needs.
1. The need to be loved.
2. The need to be appreciated.
3. The need to be useful.
If these needs are met then we are more productive as people; we accomplish more and seek to please others. It always amazes me how dumb so many managers and business owners are when it comes to understanding these needs in their employees. If you want to be a great leader learn to encourage others. Look for the good and the praiseworthy and your business will be more successful, your employees will be happier and more productive, and you will live longer.
