How Fast is Fast Enough?

From time to time I have to take a journey that involves driving through Virginia and West Virginia. The trip starts out safe and sound at a reasonable 55 miles per hour, the maximum speed limit for that stretch of road. After a few minutes the pace quickens, drivers decide they are out of town so it is time to put the foot to the pedal. Soon, those around me are doing 65 miles per hour or more. Shortly after that we change to I-81 where the speed limit is increased to 65 miles per hour so for a lot of drivers that means they should go 75 to 80 miles an hour.

After 15 minutes of driving we arrive in West Virginia where the speed limit is 70 miles per hour which now means those same drivers can drive like bats out of hell and do 85 or more miles per hour.

My question is; how fast is fast enough? Does excessive speed really get us to our destination that much faster? The answer is no. There are always obstacles up ahead that will slow everyone down and we call catch up with each other. That is not going to stop some people from taking the chance anyway. The chance of getting killed, or at least, the chance of getting a speeding ticket which can be quite hefty.

My suggestion is; slow down you move too fast, you've got to make the morning last, wait a minute, I think that is a song.

Drive safe.
