I had the misfortune last night to watch Dinner for Schmucks on DVD. Has to be the dumbest movie of the year. Why are there so many dumb movies that people pay good money to see in theaters. I watched Grown Ups on DVD, another Adam Sandler groaner with no laughs, just a lot of stupid antics. Even Due Date with its good premise was another lame, dumb movie. Have we become so immune to quality that we think this is the highest standard we can reach in comedy?
What happened to people like the Marx Brothers, Bob Hope, and others? Are there no comedians today who know how to be funny or should we blame Hollywood. Even Larry the Cable Guy who is funny in stand-up comes across as a real dud in the movies he has made. Maybe it isn't his fault but can't the Hollywood gurus go back to making "funny movies"? I know it is a novel idea but maybe it is time we put the funny back into comedy.
